Ride out - NEC Birmingham 1999
The Sun is shining, the weather is sweet yah. The time is 7am. I (Ivan)
had already phoned Philip & Smithie. We were to be leaving at 07:30 am, but things was running a little late.
By 7.45am we all meet up. While all greeting one another and deciding on which route to take, I saw a
Burgundy Blackbird appear at the Junction at Stamford Hill. It was Erol, a brother I have met up a couple of times before, originally with Ian in Croydon a few months ago.
Erol asked "Whats happening?" I told him we were going to the NEC Bike Show. He then asked if we could wait a few minutes for him, so as he could prepare himself for the journey. - No Problem. As soon as Erol returned, we fuel up and started the journey.
About 7 to 10 miles on the M1, I lost my Visor. (??-ed)
Smithie who was following behind me at the time, did well to avoid the flying visor. Maybe it was a natural move seeing that he was riding his
Ninja. Me losing my visor so early into the journey and being the slower rider in the group slowed down our riding pace quite
a lot.
We made a stop about 2 junction before the M6 and had a break. This gave me a chance to clear some
dead
flies from my face, then continued the journey. We reached Birmingham about 11- 11:30 am.
Ian, Jackie & his 2 nephews were already there with GO STAR youngest member -
Della of course.
I met a brother from London and gave him a business card. Also a couple of brothers from Birmingham were telling me about the Black stunt rider who came 4th in a Championship - made me feel good. I gave them some
business card as they travel to Bike events around the country.
Ian was talking to some possible sponsor so wasn't able to take in as much of the show as I. Before leaving (6pm closing time), I got a new visor . NOW I HAVE GOT EYES AGAIN.
Everyone had enjoyed the show and we said our farewells to Ian and his family and returned to London. We stopped at a
Pub in Finsbury Park where we had some
refreshments before departing on our separate ways.
