Well myself and Barry Lukehurst (racer #96) got back
from Snetterton at about 11:30pm last night. It was a good weekend , the
weather in the day time could not have been better!!! the evening was a
different matter, with ice
covering the tent we were in !!!! we seemed to be the poor relations in
our tent, as the rest of the paddock was from caravans up to articulated
lorries, still it did not dampen our mood as this is what club racing is
all about.
Barry had a good race day. He was participating in 600
clubman's, which was 1 race on its own. He managed to place a
respectable 14th, which gained him 2 points. Barry also raced in the two
600 supersport races of the day, managing to get 23rd and a 9th
respectively. Which considering his bike is at least 2 years older than
the majority of the field and a large proportion of the grid was made up
of MRO riders practising for the next days races, it was a good result
over all. This is purely from a spectator and team helpers point of
view, so I will not ramble on giving you a corner by corner account of
the racing, that's what the riders forum is for.
After the winter break it was good to get track side
again ,and enjoy the friendly atmosphere of the pit lane and
paddock. Unfortunately there seemed to be less familiar faces from last
year, but it was the first round of the year and i expect as the season
progresses we will have the chance to catch up with a few of them. It
was a bit disappointing that we were the only people from Go Star ,but I
understand that families and other commitments come into the equation.
Lets hope that we can catch up with each other as the season progresses.
We had the pleasure of sharing our garage with Jon
Barton a racer of 13 years, he has raced in European championships
and is a very respected Isle Of Man TT rider. The lap record is 128mph
average, and his best last year
is 120mph. It was a real pleasure to sit and watch his mechanics
tinkering and fettling with the bikes as he was testing. Jon was riding
a 998 Ducati in super twins ,which I have to say he made the rest of the
field look very ordinary, breaking the lap record for the RSV Mille
class on his Ducati on the second lap of his race, he finished 1st in
that race by "a country mile !!!!!". He was also riding a 748 (in
supersport 600) and an FZR 400 (in supersport 400).
On the FZR he placed a respectable 3rd place, as on
the second lap of the 400 super sport race he developed a miss fire ,but
held the position until the finish line. Keep an eye out for this name
when MCN post their Island results !!!!!!!!A genuinely nice guy with
time to talk and have a laugh with.
I would just like to send my deepest sympathies to the
friends and family of the young lad, sadly i do not know his name, who
died yesterday after an incident coming down the start/finish straight,
in the first race of the day. I wish the other person involved a speedy
recovery also. It brings home the fact that this is a dangerous sport,
its easy to forget this when you get caught up in the atmosphere of the
weekend, regrettably it takes something like this to bring it home to us
again. Lets just hope and pray that this is the last we will see of this
for the rest of the season!!!
I will sign of now, take care everyone and hope to see
you all soon (the vodka is brewing!!! those that know me will know
what that means).
Regards Rodders.
