I now well and truly have the racing bug after my Rookie year this year, and am very grateful for the support from Go Star members, especially Barry and Pauline, would not have been the same without them.
Barry kept nagging me to get into Minitwins as it is cheaper than Super Sport 600, however I had promised my wife that I would not race next year and would spend time and money at home, only fair. When Barry and I were packing up at the last meet at Brands Hatch, we were talking about next year and I told him I would not be racing, my dear wife then said that she didn't mind me doing one or two meetings next year. Yipee the door was open, so I explained to her a) that I was not good enough to race in Super Sport 600 and b) that I couldn't afford it because of the money I would have spend on the bike, so I said I would have to move into Minitwins but that would mean a change of bike.
Long story short, I have brought a Minitwin, picture below, it is a K3 bike with a K5 engine in it so should be OK. It was built last winter and raced this year by a Rookie like me, so hopefully not thrashed to bits. T
he ZX6R has gone to my mate that help me build it in the first place for trackdays and I hope to convince him to race in 2007. I will not be able to do all race meetings next year, will be racing with Bemsee again and I hope to do all the Brands Indy, Snetterton and possibly Mallory, time and money will tell.
My Minitwin will be painted in Go Start colours, so please look out for us if you are ever at any of the meetings. I no desperately need to get on track and learn to ride the Minitwin before the start of the season.
Last year info
Been road riding for a long time, member of IAM and ride an R6 on the road. Done the English National Rally twice, great fun, 540 miles in 17hours, overnight, on an R6 with youngest daughter on back.
Started trackdays back in 2001 on my brand new R6 but managed to drop it twice at Cadwell so decided I needed a trackbike. So went out an brought a 1998 ZX6R Road bike for the job.
Was an instructor with a Track Company in 2003 & 4, and one of the very few ACU qualified instructors, not that means much, just that I can teach, so I thought I better try and put what I preached into practice.
Will be racing in the Rookie 600 class with Bemsee this year and hopefully will do most of the rounds if bike and I stay in one piece. Another incentive for me to start racing is my elder brother who started racing 600's in Northern Ireland. So once I get some experience I think we should get a group of us together and go across there and whip some arse.
Looking forward to great times with Go Star. Claim to fame is going out on track with John Reynolds at Cadwell last year. Below is a before picture of the ZX6R as a road bike.
Kwak at a trackday at Brands.
